BlackBerry Storm 9570 Canceled for all Carriers?

It was just a few weeks ago that the rumored Storm2 refresh had been comfirmed to exist. Then news broke that Verizon no longer intended to carry the Storm 9570. However, it may not have been entirely Verizon's doing.

Our source tells us this is what he was told:

"Thank you for your hard work and diligence in preparing your application to support the upcoming hardware refresh of the BlackBerry Storm2 smartphone (model number 9570, codename R027). Regrettably, RIM has decided not to pursue this device further and has ended the program.

However, rest assured that you will have the opportunity to leverage the work you’ve put in thus far in preparing for the new OS, as BlackBerry 6 will be making its way to more Verizon products in the near future, including the BlackBerry Bold 9650 and the BlackBerry Curve 9330"

So it seems that RIM has completely killed the Storm2 refresh. The 9570 seemed like it was just an option for Verizon. Verizon basically just wants a 3G/4G LTE capable touchscreen BlackBerry. It also wouldn't surprise us if the Storm series is laid to rest. Perhaps, we may see a 'miniplaybook' type of device hit verizon in place of another Storm device.

The entire Storm series was a bit of a flop and in our opinion the Storm 9570 would have only added to the travesty. So, it isn"t too far from our minds that RIM could either be finished with Storms or be working on one that will make people take another look at the series. Nevertheless, we are excited to see what other touchscreen devices bundled with the QNX operating system may be in store for the future.

Verizon Canceling the Storm 9570; Giving Tour 9630, Bold 9650, and Curve 3G Updates?

It was just the other week we learned that the rumored Storm2 'refresh' was going to be the Storm 9570. The 9570 was going to be a beefed up Storm2 that will sport 512mb RAM, 5MP camera, OS6, and likely an upgraded processor. Now, there are reports from a leaked Verizon roadmap that show Verizon may have scrapped the 'refresh' deal all together.

Verizon has really been pushing devices on Android. We're venturing to guess that Verizon understands a Storm2 'refresh' probably wouldn't see strong sales. This must have been a last minute decision, since the Storm 9570 we saw was already Verizon branded.

Nevertheless, other carriers may still pick up the 9570. It wouldn't surprise us if we saw the Storm 9570 hit Sprint. It will also be interesting to see if there will be a GSM version, perhaps it will be the 9560?

Verizon also plans to give updates to the Tour 9630, Bold 9650, and Curve 3G 9330 in October. Apparently, for "known issues", whatever they may be.

Were there any Verizon customers out there looking forward to the Storm 9570? Could you hold out until 2011 for a possible 4G LTE Storm device?

BlackBerry Storm 9570 Gets a Closer Look

From what you can see the upcoming BlackBerry Storm 9570 will definitely look identical to the current Storm2 9520/9550 form factor. Like the Bold 9780, the BlackBerry Storm 9570 will merely receive internal upgrades so that it can efficiently handle OS 6.

The main reason that the original Storm2 won't receive OS 6 is primarily due to the touchscreen sucking up too much memory with OS 6. The base 256mb RAM on the Storm2 simply wasn't strong enough. Therefore, the refresh model (9570) was necessary to get a Storm device that could run OS 6.

The Storm 9570 will not be thinner than the original Storm2. Literally, just about everything about the 9570 will be the same as the Storm2, even down to the battery. The battery on the Storm 9570 will still be the DX-1. Any current or past Storm2 owners know that the battery life isn't great. We're hoping that with upgraded memory, processor, and OS 6 that the battery life will be better, considering RIM left in the same old battery.

Exclusive: BlackBerry Storm 9570 Outed!

As of late there has been much speculation over the next device in the Storm series. We can today confirm that the BlackBerry 9570 will merely be a refreshed Storm2. While this may technically be the 3rd in line of the Storm series, does this mean it's the mysterious 'Storm3'?

The BlackBerry Storm 9570 will be the CDMA answer for a touchscreen device with OS 6, at least till the end of 2010. The 9570 has 512mb RAM, a 5MP camera, OS 6, and most likely a 624Mhz processor. The 9570 will keep the current Storm2 9520/9550 form factor and continue to use the SurePress, Piezo touchscreen technology. It is also rumored to be releasing in October.

So what exactly will the 9570 be? Is it going to be the Storm2.5 or (as it is technically) the Storm3? It is a bit hard to tell at this point. It is really up to you whether or not the 9570 is labeled as the Storm2.5 or Storm3. Nevertheless, the 9570 is just a pointless 'refresh' model to us, which acts as a filler for (we're hoping) something greater in the near future. Also, our guess is the recent leaked image of a 'Storm' device may possibly be the Storm4, which could include the new QNX operating system, and should be 4G LTE ready when released in early 2011. Or, it could just be a prototype that found its way out of Waterloo some how.

Stay tuned, as there should be more photos to come!
