Verizon Stopped Testing Of OS 6 for the BlackBerry Storm 2?

According to a “reliable informant”, Verizon was working on some BlackBerry 6 builds for the 9550 Storm 2, but currently have ceased. It is being said that it was possible that Verizon ran into problems making the OS compatible with the device.

There are rumors that BlackBerry 6 requires at least 512MB of RAM, and the 9550 only has 256MB.

If true, this is sad for current Storm 2 users. Verizon to not make OS 6 for it at all seems wrong. Perhaps, Verizon will be up to their usual antics and release the OS late.

Official: BlackBerry Storm2 9550 OS 5.0.0.713 from Verizon Wireless

It wasn't too long ago that OS 5.0.0.713 officially released for TBayTel. Now if you're on the Verizon network you too can get this OS if you haven't already. It should start to get pushed to your device for OTA install.

If you haven't already been prompted to install OTA you can download the full OS and install using Desktop Manager or another loader.

Verizon BlackBerry Tour 9630 Not Working Well? Get a Certified Like-New Bold 9650!

One of our Verizon ninjas let us in on a little secret. Remember that recent OS update we saw the other day for the BlackBerry Tour 9630? The OS 5.0.0.732 update, which was basically a patch, actually brought more issues than fixes.

RIM is supposedly scrambling to get the OS bugs fixed. Until then, its being told unofficially to Verizon tech support reps to walk customers through the troubleshooting process. If the problem cannot be fixed we're told the rep will likely send out a certified like-new Bold 9650, since it has the same battery and charger!

It isn't clear how long this will on. Most likely until Verizon approves a new OS release for the Tour 9630. So, if you're experiencing problems now with your Tour 9630 because of the last OS update, you may just want to give Big Red a call. Are you experiencing issues with the .732 OS?

Verizon Pushing More Junk Quick Launch Apps; This Time It's Fox News and Games

It is unfortunate, but Verizon Wireless is notorious for pushing junk quick launch apps to BlackBerrys and other devices on the network. Some of you may remember the huge uproar that was started when Verizon forced all BlackBerry native browsers to only use Bing as the search provider.

Now it seems Verizon is pushing a few more quick launch apps to slow down your BlackBerry and you can't delete them. The newest one we've noticed is for Fox News. A few more we haven't seen before are The Sims 3 and Tetris.

It isn't unusual for carriers to push apps to users phones. However, we can count a total of 16 so far. When will it end and how much more clutter will Verizon push out? Have you noticed these pushed to your phone? If you haven't yet, you most likely will after a battery pull.

BlackBerry Bold 9650 OS 5.0.0.732 Leaked

With the official release of the Verizon BlackBerry Bold 9650 today, we thought it would only be suitable for any new owners to be able to get their hands on OS 5.0.0.732! This is a Verizon package. Therefore, any Sprint users must delete the vendor.xml file. We aren't sure what has changed with this build, but it is certainly a fair step up from .699!

Verizon BlackBerry Bold 9650 Now Available for Purchase Online!

Verizon Wireless has been very sluggish with the release of the BlackBerry Bold 9650. With just officially announcing the 9650 yesterday, they have now launched it online as we previously heard was to take place. This is Verizon's answer to the Bold 9700, and while not too far different from the Tour 9630 (its original older brother) we're sure the 9650 will be well accepted.

Verizon BlackBerry Bold 9650 Launching June 10th?

Well, well, looks like we have some more info into the release of the Bold 9650 for Verizon. We first showed you that the Bold 9650 had been placed in the VZW Summer Catalog and had heard that it would be releasing in June. Now, if you take this screenshot of an internal e-mail to heart it shows that the Bold 9650 will be available for direct fulfillment on June 3rd and ready for in-store pick up on June 10th. This seems to follow along with what we were previously reporting. Are you a Verizon customer looking to pick this device up?

Verizon Customer Service Reps Get Training Material on BlackBerry Bold 9650

The guys over at TBZ got their hands on some snapshots of the Verizon training materials for the BlackBerry Bold 9650. We previously reported that the Bold 9650 appeared in the VZW summer catalog and heard it would be releasing in early June. Kind of disappointing, the Bold 9650 will only receive a 2GB micro SD card (compared to the 16GB the Storm2 9550 received). It will be interesting to find out when the 9650 will finally be officially acknowledge by Big Red. Are you a VZW customer going to upgrade to the 9650?

Blackberry 9650 Housing Shows Up on Supplier Website

@salomondrin posted that TrueSupplier is now carrying the Blackberry 9650 housing.  The big news is that, this pretty much confirmed that the Essex (Tour 2) will be a Verizon Bold.  The back of the housing shows "Bold" on it much like the previous Bold models.  The device should be released sometime in the next couple months and feature a trackpad, Wi-Fi, and upgraded processor all packed into the Tour housing.  This is big for Verizon customers wanting to get their hands on a Bold, soon they will have the chance.
