Curve 8980 'Atlas' Spotted with China Mobile Branding
The latest and greatest BlackBerry devices haven't yet made their way to the mainland Chinese market. However, it appears that China Mobile will soon be getting a Curve/Bold hybrid with the release of the second 'Atlas'.
Recently, China Mobile launched the Curve 8910, which was basically a Curve 8900 and still sport the trackball. We aren't sure how the sales were for the 8910, but China Mobile users are soon to get a decent upgrade with the Curve 8980.
The Curve 8980 is essentially a Bold 9700 with a Curve keyboard and a plastic battery rather than leather. The Curve 8980 should have similar specs of the Bold 9700 with 624Mhz processor, 3,2MP camera, and 256mb RAM. The Curve 8980 will also be China Mobile's first device with a trackpad. The Curve 8980 will not be a 3G enabled device, but it will support WiFi.

Leaked: Skype Beta v1.0.5.0 for Verizon BlackBerry Users
It has been quiet, almost too quiet since we heard anything last about the Skype app that is supposed to be coming to BlackBerry users on the Verizon network. Luckily, today anyone that failed to get the first leaked beta version may get a chance to install a working version.
The last beta version of Skype did not load properly on all BlackBerry devices. This newer version is said to work on all models. We haven't yet tested it and are unsure if it does in fact work properly.

Rogers Inventory Screenshot Shows BlackBerry Torch Launching on Sept. 15th
A Rogers inventory screenshot has leaked, which shows the BlackBerry Torch to be launching on September 15th for $999.99 CAD.We're not sure whether or not this promo price is correct, but it does seem a bit steep.
There are a few rumored Torch launch parties happening around the same time that Rogers is supposed to be launching the Torch. Telus is rumored to launch the Torch on September 16th, while Bell's launch date has yet to surface. Are you in Canada and looking to get the Torch if you haven't already?

BlackBerry Torch Keypad Spotted With Chinese Lettering; Could the Torch Launch in China?
The Chinese market is beginning to grow slowly, but substantially. RIM has opened its first-ever BlackBerry store in China and there are rumors that China Mobile may open up BlackBerry Internet Service (BIS) to its customers.
Now, the keypad for the BlackBerry Torch has been spotted with Chinese lettering. This could mean we may see the Torch launch on China Mobile or surrounding countries of Chinese speaking people. This keypad may even just be a third-party product for Chinese users to swap out the original Torch keypad.
Nevertheless, it is very interesting to see this keypad. It would be a huge device in China, if released, as China Mobile currently only offers the Curve 8910 and 8310.

BlackBerry Bold 9780 Spotted in White
on Friday, August 27, 2010
While they may not be the clearest pictures we've ever seen on the upcoming BlackBerry Bold 9780, it is still very distinguishable that this is a beautiful pearl white 9780!
The Bold 9780 aka R020 is going to be the refresh model for the Bold 9700. It will sport 512mb RAM, OS 6, and a 5MP camera. We think the 9780 looks quite sexy in white. What do you say?

Bell Releasing OS 6 To Older BlackBerry Devices in 2011?
When RIM announced that the new BlackBerry 6 operating system was up to the carriers, that was all the information besides that should be available for the Bold 9700, Pearl 9100/9105, and Curve 9300/9330.
So far no carrier has really made any mention of supporting those devices with OS 6 in the future. T-Mobile did say that they were excited to support BlackBerry 6, but that was it. Luckily, we now have a leaked document that pins the Bell release of OS 6 to 2011.
This could be any date in 2011. Our guess is carriers will hold off as long as possible to officially release OS 6. This way they can push all the newer devices coming out that come pre-loaded with OS 6. It is a typical marketing trend. An example of this is the Bold 9000 just received OS 5.0 from AT&T!
Nevertheless, other carriers may release OS 6 before Bell or we may see it leak. Hopefully, users of the aforementioned devices will not have to wait too much longer.

Sprint Already Having Issues with the BlackBerry Curve 9330?
on Wednesday, August 25, 2010
RIM has subsequently confirmed that Sprint will be carrying the upcoming Curve 9330 (CDMA version of 9300) by publishing a knowledge base article outlining a current issue with the 9330.
The problem starts when doing a master factory reset using the ##RTN command. Here is the formal description:
After the ##RTN command is performed on a Sprint BlackBerry Curve 9330 smartphone, BlackBerry App World storefront and all preloaded games other than BrickBreaker and Word Mole are unexpectedly removed without user action."
Apparently, the only way to correct the problem is to re-install App World. However, this will completely remove all games you may have previously had.
*update* the knowledge base article has since been removed.

First Image of Upcoming BlackBerry OS 6 Theme Builder
For those who have purchased a BlackBerry Torch 9800, or currently have a device that is running OS 6 they may have ran into a bit of a problem. Currently App World shows themes that are not at all compatible with OS 6.
We don't doubt that those people are pretty upset if they purchased a theme for their Torch and come to find out it doesn't work. The new theme builder should hopefully solve all of this for OS 6 devices.
We're told that the new theme builder should release sometime around DevCon. It will be very interesting to see how themes work on OS 6 given the new pages slide transition and other features far different from OS 5. Are you looking forward to themes on your Torch or OS 6 device?
Thanks @rezn!

RIM Acquires Cellmania to Possibly Integrate New Services into BlackBerry App World
on Tuesday, August 24, 2010
Research In Motion has acquired Cellmania, a creator of mobile content marketplaces. Cellmania has mostly worked with carriers to bring ringtones, wallpapers, video, and other mobile content to their subscribers.
One can only conclude that it is likely RIM will use Cellmania to beef up the BlackBerry App World. The potential in App World is huge, but it lacks in many ways when compared to Apple App Store or Android Marketplace.
Needless to say they RIM is taking steps to make App World a better competitor. Recently they announced that they lowered to minimum price for apps with the release of App World 2.0. It will be interesting to see just what plays out with the acquisition
