Motorola and RIM Settle on Patent Infringement Case

Research In Motion and Motorola have settled their differences over the alleged patent infringements. Early in 2010 Motorola filed the suit with the International Trade Commission (ITC) to stop the importation of certain RIM BlackBerry products.

Today, Motorola has entered into a settlement and license agreement with RIM, which will end the world-wide litigation. RIM will be making an up-front payment and further ongoing royalties to Motorola.

In the new agreement, both parties will benefit from a cross-licensing. They will receive cross-licenses on different patents and even transfer certain patents to each other.
