Blurts Pro Blackberry App Review
on Thursday, April 1, 2010
Blurts is a Blackberry app developed by MLH Software. It is designed for the Blackberry user who is in front of their computer for extended periods of time. It sends pop-up alerts to your computer whenever you receive an email, SMS, or miss a call. I had the opportunity to test drive the app for the last few weeks and I have to say I am very impressed. Hit the jump for a full review.
Blurts installs on your Blackberry and computer and pairs via bluetooth. If you're PC doesn't have bluetooth capability this app won't work for you. Once you install the app on your computer and Blackberry, you will run both apps. There is a paid, and free version. The free version gives you alerts for only 1 email address, and missed calls, so the functionality is limited. In the Pro version you can get alerts for all email accounts on your Blackberry, along with SMS support and missed calls.
One of my favorite features is the ability to reply and send SMS messages straight from the desktop app. You can also take a screenshot, import contacts, and access the clipboard on your device. The Blurts app has to be running on your Blackberry and computer to work, but both run in the background and use little memory. I didn't see any slowdowns because of using the app. If you work most of the day in front of a computer, and hate always having to check your phone, this app is for you.
The desktop app will allow you to dial/place calls, disconnect calls, increase or decrease call volume, and activate your speakerphone. MLH Software is hard at work to bring more features to the Blurts app. The only thing I would recommend is Blackberry Messenger support. Other than that, the app is very solid, and very useful. I give it 4.5 out of 5 stars.
