Norton Antivirus firewall can prohibit certain applications on the computer from connecting out to the internet

This information applies to customers connecting using an aircard or tethered phone who have Norton Antivirus installed on their computer. Symptoms include successfully connecting in QLM, but getting "Page cannot be displayed" errors in Internet Explorer. Disabling Norton will resolve this issue, but is not acceptable for many customers.
The Norton Antivirus firewall can prohibit certain applications on the computer from connecting out to the internet. Follow the directions below to ensure that Norton is not blocking internet access for these applications.
STEP: Configure Norton Personal Firewall to permit Internet Explorer and Alltel Internet Accelerator Full Access.

Perform the following steps if you need to temporarily disable a firewall rule that is blocking an Internet connection that a program needs.

  1. Double-click the Norton Internet Security Norton Internet Security Tray Icon icon in the system tray.
    The Norton Internet Security application opens.

  2. Double-click Personal Firewall. (Figure 1)
    The Personal Firewall screen appears.

  3. Click the Programs tab. (Figure 2)

  4. Locate the option "Microsoft Internet Explorer" being blocked in the Program list, and then double-click it.
    The Program Control screen appears for that specific program.

  5. In the What do you want to do? drop-down menu (Figure 3), click to select Permit, and then click OK.

  6. If Alltel Internet Accelerator is installed, repeat steps 4 and 5 looking for "NettGain1200_C.exe" in the Program List

  1. Click OK, and close Norton Internet Security.
